Eva Hesse: In the Face of It

Hauser & Wirth

documentary, 9 min min, 2025

“The deterioration of her work started even before she died…yet she kept going in the face of it, just as she kept going in the face of her own mortality.”—Rosalind E. Krauss

This short film, commissioned by Hauser & Wirth, explores the transformative legacy of a pioneering artist who, despite her untimely death in 1970, left a body of work that pushed the boundaries of materiality in sculpture sculpture beyond Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism, and has deeply influenced the work of a younger generation of artists. Featuring the voices from Eva’s sister, Helen Hesse Charash, art critic and historian Rosalind E. Krauss, artist Maren Hassinger, and Barry Rosen, the film celebrates Hesse’s enduring legacy on the occasion of Eva Hesse. Five Sculptures, presented at Hauser & Wirth New York in 2024.
