Chemi Rosado-Seijo: A Place of Resilience
National Gallery of Art
documentary, digital series, 16 min, 2026 |
"Turning metaphors into realities."
A skater at heart, Chemi Rosado-Seijo sees the city the way skaters do: what others dismiss as obstacles become opportunities. For more than two decades, he has worked hand in hand with communities across Puerto Rico. In La Perla, a coastal neighborhood in San Juan, he and residents built a sculptural skate bowl. In El Cerro, in Naranjito, he painted hillside homes in shades of green to blend back into the landscape. Now, in the wake of Hurricane María, Chemi and his neighbors are transforming El Cerro into a model of self-sufficiency, with solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and native crops. Here, art isn't only a poetic gesture; it's a way of organizing, surviving, and reclaiming the future.
