Marie Watt: Turtle Island
National Gallery of Art
documentary, digital series, 15 min, 2023
In this first episode of From West to East, a new documentary series produced in partnership with the National Gallery of Art, we visit Marie Watt, artist and member of the Seneca Nation, who takes us into the story of Turtle Island and its connection to her work, family, and Native American history. Interwoven with Marie’s story is the story of Tomanowos, a sacred meteorite that shaped the geology and history of the Willamette Valley where Marie lives and works.
This episode is part of "West to East, a series created and produced by Rava Films, in partnership with the National Gallery of Art, which embarks on a cross-country journey to connect communities through art, spotlighting contemporary artists and the relationships between their work, their communities, and the places where they live and work.
