There’s a monument in Socrates Park that’s also a communal grill. As in you can grill food -- with friends -- on the monument, entitled “Eternal Flame.” At the invitation of artist Paul Ramiréz Jonas, five Queens-based chefs gathered to do just that on one safely social distant summer day in 2020. We were deeply touched to catch this tender and safe communal gathering. Though people have been experiencing distance and solitude, Ramirez Jonas’ piece brings renewed hope to community care and spaces, and reminds us that we all love to gather around food!
