Genesis Facade Commission: Lee Bul

branded & institutional storytelling, documentary, 2024 | More Coming Soon...
In 2024, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Genesis announced a partnership for The Met Facade Commission Series, now called the ‘Genesis Facade Commission’, an initiative of Hyundai. The exhibition series invites an artist each year to create new artworks establishing a dialogue between the artist's practice, The Met collection, the physical Museum, and to sit atop the four pedestals in The Met’s historic neo-classical facade, inviting the Met’s audiences into the museum. In 2024, for the Fifth edition of the commission series, the preeminent South Korean multidisciplinary artist Lee Bul created four guardian-like sculptures that invite viewers to reflect on the aspirations and disillusions that come with “progress,” our utopian (and possible dystopic) past, present and future.
From shooting in Seoul, Korea capturing artist Lee Bul's process in her studio, to speaking with Max Hollein, the Director and CEO of The Met, this series spanned the globe and brought together voices celebrating the forefront of sculpture, contemporary art and public art today.
The Genesis Facade Commission is part of a multiyear partnership between Hyundai Genesis and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
